Saffron Bistro: Restaurant Review

You really need to hear about our experience at this Italian restaurant, Saffron Bistro. This restaurant is just perfect, the service exceeded our expectations and the food was Divine! Thanks to the Italian Chef Angelo, I had one of the best meals of Italian food that I've ever had in my life. Angelo is really a perfectionist when it comes to what he will send out of the kitchen. Not only the food was cooked to perfection but it was also plated in a very appealing way. My only regret is that I didn't know about this restaurant before. The decoration was so elegant and cozy and it serves liquor for those who like to chill out and have a drink with a snack after a long stressful day. On the same evening we had a chance to have a little chat with Nihal Said, owner and restaurant manager of Saffron Bistro in Al Guezira plaza, Cairo, Egypt. She is the one who’s running this family business. The name of the restaurant is inspired by the universal spice, Saffron, that’s been used in many different cuisines like the Iranian, Indian, Spanish and French. Prices are really reasonable as Nihal wanted to attract all categories of people, even the employees who may come on their lunch time to have a quick bite. Providing customers with an outstanding dining experience is Nihal’s passion and main goal. She believes that the foundation of an outstanding meal rests in its ingredients. Therefore, she goes the extra mile to ensure serving healthy meals to her customers using the freshest highest-quality ingredients. Saffron Bistro is highly recommended to everyone! We brought you some photos of the place and the main dishes we had at that night. Enjoy!

Unforgettable Diner in Cafe Belge

Last April, I had thepleasure to stay for my birthday weekend at the great Ritz Carlton, Read Review HERE. I had the chance to try the somehow recently opened Cafe Belge. Stepping into Cafe Belge is like leaving Dubai and entering into an old19th century cafe in Belgium or in Paris. The interiors was mainly wood with brown leather seatings, and dim lights..works well for a romantic dinner. It has a huge indoors seating and realtively big outdoors section with live DJ everyday.

The menu is huge and  diverse, however Cafe Belge is well know of it fine selection of seafood dishes. But unfortunately we arrived late to diner, and Seafood chef was about to leave. So we went for the next best thing, the Wagyu beef, and if you don't know what is Wagyu, it is a good cut from organic feed Japanese meat, the best in the world.  Me and Hesham ordered two burgers and Pineapple juice, I love the mix of beef and pineapple together, if you haven't tried it, please do it is so highly recommended. The burgers were literally melting in our mouths. My husband is a big burger eater, and he has eaten in a lot of places all around the world, but he commented that was one of the best he had ever tasted. I wanted to try some of the desserts but I was so full with a huge burger a side salad and fries.

A taste of Home at Leila's

I was in a long trip touring the continent of Australia, I admit I had a delish trip in term of food, especially in Melbourne, as it's well known of her good food, but all that time away from home I didn't have a warm Arabian food, going back to Dubai, I had to meet a lot of friends over lunches and dinners in international restaurants none of them served oriental food. One day I really felt nostalgic, nostalgic for home and for some warm oriental food, so I headed to one of my favourite restaurant ever Leila's Restaurant. You may have read my previous posts about this fantastic place READ HERE and HERE, I really like it, it makes me feel I am home, although I am Egyptian but the Lebanese food is not really foreign to us or to any family in Egypt and the gulf, and especially Leila's food is so homey so you literally feel like you old grandma with Lebanese roots is cooking you dinner. So just by stepping into Leila the boulevard I heard Abdel Halim's voice singing, and the yummy smell of the grill...I knew then I was at the right place. I don't smoke Shisha, so I chose to sit indoors, but if you smoke sit outside and have a very nice view of the streets outside and the boulevard area.

I was welcomed by two super friendly waiters, who served me with a smile all the time and we very helpful without even knowing I was reviewing the restaurant.

I started with stuffed vine leaves an all time favourite with chicken liver and Hummus, followed by a mix grill main dish (Mashawy) and for drinks I had one of their signature fresh lemon mint. The appetizers was mouthwatering, and the chicken liver was soft and marinated to perfection. The mixed grill platter was a festive for my taste buds, so juicy and tasty. I wished I had a room for my favourite dessert their the Ghazl Beirut which is cotton candy with rose water ice-cream yummmy.

If you ever in Dubai, Egypt or Lebanon make sure to stop by Leila for lunch or dinner.

The Beauty Milk

When I was young, my biggest problem in life was the warm cup of milk, that my parents forced me to drink every morning. I know I am not alone in this, but I really hated the taste of milk, I it's really bad to say this about food, especially milk, but that what I really felt. My poor parents tried very hard to make me love it, they got me every kind of milk they could put their hands on, from powder to condensed to evaporated, to canned, but nothing worked for me. As I grew up, I eventually learned about the benefits of milk, so I tried to force my self to drink a cup at least every week. "which is insufficient". One day I was skiing at the Dubai Ski in mall of the Emirates, I fall down and broke my hand. My poor delicate hand :) was put on a cast for a long period of almost three months, which is not normal for such a superficial bone breakage. The doctors related that to my sever shortage of calcium, so during all that time followed by nine months of pregnancy I was forced to drink two cups of milk daily. I hated my life till one day I discovered Almond milk. and no it's not normal milk flavoured with almonds, it is really milk extracted from almonds.

Almond milk has more calcium concentration, proteins, nutrients and all the beneficial ingredients than the normal cow milk, and better it tastes so good and is sugary enough, so no need to add any extra sugar which makes it perfect for diabetics and those who are on diet. Beside all this it has amazing beautifying benefits, it has anti-oxidants, vitamin B, iron "not present in normal milk" and full of vitamin E, which is super good for your hair, nails and of course your skin savior. Nuitrionists around the world like to call Almond milk the Elixir of beauty and health. It also contains Vit. A so good for eye sight, and the best thing is it's easily digested by the body, and is great for all lactose-intolerant people. I also recommend it for lactating mothers, as Cow milk can cause sever gases to newborn because lactose is transmitted via breast milk to babies.

It looks a bit darker than the normal milk

If you are in GCC you can find it in almost any big or fancy supermarket, in Egypt try to search for at the diet section at big supermarkets, and also Gourmet shop stock them from time to time. If you can't find it in the market no worries because you can do it yourself at home. Check this video out.

Quick lunck at Adam's and blend

Adam's and Blend is another hidden gem in Heliopolis, that I discovered last year, they are actually two different shops, Adam's is for Doner, falafel and Basmati rice take out, and Blend's is the shop next door for refreshing fresh juice blends, crepes and frozen yoghurt, their decor is amazing, big glass windows and red bricks even the pavement outside the shops, looks great with its old looking tiles and the outside columns which are specially designed to act as high tables. so you buy your food and eat it outside, and Kudos to their music playlist, they always know what to play, and I heard a rumor not sure about it though,  is that they are planning to have live music playing there.

Last time I went for a quick lunch, I tried Adam's doner kebabs, which is doner with parsley, lettuce, lemon tomato sauce and tzatziki sauce, and had Orange / Carrot juce, I loved that jumbo straw, the man there was nice enough to let me choose the colour of my straw,so of course I went for the pink.

sorry for the poor image quality it was taken by a mobile camera
