To be honest, I used to hate copper and wire jewellery so much, to the extent that whenever I came across a jewelery designer group and found it to be copper or wire accessories I would close it down immediately, I thought that brass accessories are not at all my thing. till I discovered D Jewellery by Dalia Hamdallah, a Jordanian designer with amazing and unique taste. Since the day, I saw my good friend Maram wearing a pair of earrings from Dalia, I was hooked up. I just can't wait for her to come back to Egypt to get my hands on her Jewellery. Am like obsessed with them right now and you can see they are on my Wishlist READ HERE
I had this Interview with Dalia, and here what she had to say;
Dalia, tell us a brief about yourself and about your background ?
Dalia: I am Jordanian who used to live in Cairo. Graduated from AUC in 2008 from Fine Arts and have been doing jewellery since I started uni.
How and why did you start jewellery designing ?
Dalia: I started by taking a four days wire-jewellery course in Sakiat El Sawy n then it took off from there. I was always into jewellery and fashion, so the course broadened that area for me and set me on the correct path.
How is living between Cairo and Amman affected your jewellery ?
Dalia: My professional jewellery selling took off in Amman after I graduated, as it transformed from hobby to full-time job. It was nor easy there, as I didn't know anyone, and didn't know where to start. A main challenge was that the materials I use were not available in Amman ,such as the high quality stones and the brass wires.
Did you face any tough situation during your career ? how did you handle it ?
Dalia: For me the toughest situations were financially related, because I suck in business and so financing, pricing, etc took me awhile to manage correctly, by learning to keep records of everything in and out !
What's the most important clothing item in your wardrobe ?
Dalia: A plain white tee to go with any piece of jewellery I wear.
What's the difference in preference you observed between your Egyptian and Jordanian customers ?
Dalia: Jordanians and Egyptians have pretty much same taste.
What is your favourite piece from all of your collections ?
Dalia: hard to tell. I have a different favorite piece everyday!
Future plans?
Dalia: My plan for now is to attend more international shows and expose my work more.
