The Fyunka girl and her plates

Alaa Balky is a young Saudi graphic designer and illustrator. Born in Saudi and raised in Canada, Alaa studied graphic designing in Dar Al Hekma college in Jeddah, she was so passionate about her designs she decided to launch her own brand Fyunka. Fyunka is a pop art concept brand, she started with T.Shirts then turned into bags and purses and then branched into home accessories and now plates. Fyunka has recently collaborated with Aura, the Saudi furniture and home accessories company.
Fyunka by aura is a limited edition collection of dinnerware, which is a delightful combination of both high quality product and unique design. This collaboration came to fruition as part of aura’s continued effort to support and develop the growing local talent amongst the design community of Saudi Arabia.

The concept behind this limited edition Fyunka by aura collection was to create a series of  ‘his and hers’ people-based illustrations for a dinnerware collection, that includes plates, cups, saucers and salt and pepper shakers, exclusively for aura. Each design is different yet they effortlessly connect just like people connecting on dining table, having engaged conversations and exchanging experiences.

I had the chance to dine with Alaa. We had an amazing dinner catered by the famous Debyazah, served on Fyunka X Aura dinning set. It was a great night and I really did enjoy everything.

Alaa says: “I always wanted to design dinnerware and when aura approached me I thought it was a genius idea to incorporate Fyunka within their products. I’m excited that Fyunka can be appearing on people’s dining tables and starting a conversation – and I’m looking forward to what’s to come with aura.”

The Fyunka by aura collection, manufactured in Portugal, comes with both female and male designs within one set. You can find it now at Aura store in Red Sea Mall Jeddah.

Boho Gallery Zamalek Opening

A week ago, we were all teased on Instagram by a surprise from the most famous gallery in Heliopolis BOHO GALLERY, something exciting was in the making and when we knew Bazarna events would be part of it we knew how amazing it would be. Few days later, we received our personal invitation to the opening of Boho Gallery with a pretty customized mug with our names on it.
The location of their new branch is no other than the craziest island in town Zamalek, where lately everything has been happening!! A new shopping addition for fashion lovers, who live on the other side of the city.
our invitation
In 2011 Boho Gallery opened its doors, a bohemian place displaying local and finely selected designer pieces. It is a super cozy place with flowery wallpapers and pastel interiors. Lina Maklad (the owner) didn’t fail to keep this ambiance in her new place, with a lovely window decorated with flowers, a prettier entrance with wallpaper claiming to be The Wall of Fame.Upstairs is the gallery where you can shop all from the various designers like Nada Akram Designs, Zaam, Arabian Princess, Simply Moka, Pieces Design and many others, from casual to evening and party stuff, including bags and accessories. You can also find a corner for home accessories and decorations, a corner for local beauty brands, you can simply say it is a one stop shop.

The event was Boho inspired as well, with a photo-booth entirely decorated with flowers so we can snap selfies in. The lovely set-up was designed by Bordure Events who entertained us for some treats as macaroons, mini cupcakes and red velvet cake pops by Devour. But our favorite part was certainly the fondue station by The Fondue Pot .And the giveaways were sponsored by Hairdresser Ahmed&Abdou.

Pashion's Fashion Night Out

Something is really amazing will be happening next Saturday 13/12 at the Four Seasons, First Mall in Giza. Pashion's 4th fashion night out, something that I have always to attend but always missed it because I was always traveling, but this year it came before I will just leave for my vacation. There will be more over 60 local Egyptian designers exhibiting their work. The designers are encouraged to show their work with a creative twist as there will be no tables, no stands to give the typical bazaar look. I am so looking forward to see what all of these designers have in boxes for us. There will be a lot of things happening in parallel to this, entertainment, workshops given by Azza Fahmy school, and also there will be private cocktail receptions.
